The band program at Legacy Christian Academy consists of three concert bands (Sixth Grade Beginning Band, Middle School Concert Band and High School Wind Ensemble), a jazz/pep band, and a drum-line. The band is under the direction of Mr. Gregory Hayes who is in his fifth year at Legacy. The band has received superior ratings for three consecutive years at the Texas Private School Music Educators (TPSMEA) concert band contest. The band has performed under conductors Dr. Jack Delany
(Southern Methodist University), Major Keith Bland (United States Air Force Band – Washington D.C.) and Mr. Ron McClellan (Mid-America Nazarene University). The bands have participated in clinics with Mr. David Rollins (Henderson State University) and Mr. David Schwartz
(Wheaton College, Wheaton IL). The band has also enjoyed solo performances with
Mr. John Michael Hayes (Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra), Mr. Paul Capehart (Dallas Symphony Orchestra), and Mr. Corey Rom
and Jason Webb (The King’s Brass).
The band was invited to and performed at the 2004 Association of Christian School International (ACSI) Southwest Regional Convention and International Mission Conference. The high school wind ensemble has traveled to Kansas City, Missouri for a performance with the Mid-America Nazarene University Symphonic Band, Chicago, Illinois for a performance clinic at Wheaton College and tour of Northwestern University. The band hopes to travel to Colorado Springs, Colorado in the spring for a performance and clinic with the United States Air Force Academy Band.
The Legacy Christian Academy Band has seen numerous students earn positions in the
TPSMEA All-State Band in the past three years. In 2003-2004, five students (James Journey, Michael Turner, Scott Smith, James Stockton, and Phillip Wong) were selected. In 2004-2005 six students (Jessie Forrest, James Journey, Caitlin McCullough, Michael Turner, James Stockton, and Phillip Wong) were selected. In 2005-2006 seven students (Derek Burns, Matt Clark, Kirstie Cochran, David Rhodes, James Stockton, Lyndon Willoughby, and Phillip Wong) were selected. LCA band students have also had numerous selections to Association of Texas Small School Bands (A, AA, AAA - public school) junior high and high school All-Region and high school All-Area bands.
Legacy Christian Academy has an extensive and talented studio of private lesson teachers. LCA private lesson teachers teach in the new practice room studio that includes seven individual practice rooms and one large ensemble room. LCA private lesson teachers are devoted Christian musicians with university degrees in music. Each teacher performs professionally around the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and many perform and tour the United States in professional groups periodically through out the year and during the summer. The LCA private lesson studio consists of four piano, three voice, one flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet/french horn, trombone, euphonium/tuba, percussion, and guitar teachers.
