Today through Saturday, Legacy Christian Academy will host its annual wood bat tournament. However, this year's tournament took on a new name, The Matt Clark Classic, and most-appropriately a new meaning. Matthew, a graduate of Legacy, was active in football, baseball, basketball and track. On June 3, 2012 Matt passed away as a result of an automobile accident. Matt was a senior health science studies major on a pre-med/pre-dental track at Baylor University.
Head baseball coach and LCA Athletic Director, Andrew Embry said, "We chose to name our tournament after Matthew because he was a great example of what we want to accomplish through playing baseball at Legacy."
Mark Clark, Matt's father, shared, "A number of years ago, when LCA was entering the state playoffs, Coach Embry had the team exchange baseballs with words of encouragement with their dads. Matt's ball reads: "Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven, Matt 5:14-16." Although Matt is no longer walking this earth, it is our prayer that through his memory and his deeds, that his light never ceases in bringing praises to his heavenly Father, who is the One true source of such works. Our family remains forever grateful to our Legacy family for remembering him with this tournament.
Fellow teammate and friend, Blake Snider, offered, "It is the perfect way to honor his memory, forcing us to pause a moment to reflect on how fragile life is and remember Matt for the amazing son and friend he was." Blake's brother and current LCA senior baseball player, Zach Snider, added, "Knowing how Matt played the game and that he will be watching has definitely motivated us to play our best."
