Nathan Neufang (2004)
Former Valedictorian (2004) Nathan Neufang married Marianne, June 6, 2009. The newlyweds make their home in Mebane, North Carolina where Nathan is a youth pastor at Crosslink Community Church. Nathan’s wife is a registered dietitian with the Duke Medical System. “I am currently enrolled at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, and I am taking classes to better prepare me for ministry. I am enjoying youth ministry right now, and I am open to the possibility to being a head pastor someday,” said Nathan. Nathan received a degree from UNC Chapel Hill in Journalism with an emphasis in advertising. Nathan met his wife on a mission trip to Botswana, Africa in 2006. “Four churches from North Carolina were joining together for this mission trip. We were from different churches, but we happened to meet while waiting in line for some food on the back of an overland truck. We started talking and became friends, and continued to keep in touch after the trip,” said Nathan.
How did LCA prepare you for college?
LCA prepared me for college in a few ways. The classes challenged me to think, rather than memorize answers. The teachers challenged me to write and take tests well. The teachers took the time to teach me skills that prepared me for higher learning. The courses were manageable, but often challenging. Overall, I could not have been more prepared for college.
What message would you send to current Upper School students at LCA to better prepare them for college and career?
Keep God in the center of everything that you do, and trust that He will provide everything that you need. Learn to think through things. Take the time to develop good study habits, and understand that if you work hard at something you can achieve it.
What’s your favorite memory from LCA?
I have so many fantastic memories from LCA that it is hard to pick just one. After much thought, I think my favorite memory was from my junior year of high school. During a basketball game, I drove the length of the floor with seven seconds left to go and hit a game winning three pointer to beat the number one team in our conference in overtime. All the students and parents rushed the court in a frenzy. That is something that will always stick with me.

Brittany Slyman (2009)
TCU head soccer coach Dan Abdalla announced the addition of Brittany Slyman to the TCU women's soccer program. LCA Alumni Brittany Slyman will bring a wealth of club experience with her to TCU as she also helped lead the Dallas Texans to the 2008 U-17 USYS National Championship. Slyman, who was invited to the 2006 ODP Region III College Showcase, helped the Texans place in the top-3 at the national tournament for three-straight seasons, including second overall in 2007. She was also a member of the North Texas State ODP team, while also being a member of the ODP Regional Pool since 2003. Away from the pitch, Slyman excelled in multiple sports as she earned multiple letters in basketball, softball and track and field. In softball, Slyman, who was an all-state and all-district selection, finished second in the nation in stolen bases, while leading Legacy Christian Academy to state runner-up honors. During her junior year, Slyman earned sixth-place honors in the triple jump at the state track and field meet, while placing fourth overall in both the long and triple jump at the regional meet.
"Brittany is a slasher and loves to get the ball and run at players. Her ability to create off the dribble adds a whole different dimension to our attack," said Abdalla.
Part of the information above is attributed to the TCU Soccer Program.
