Now that we have successfully launched a new school year, I'd like to report on a few “big picture” initiatives that you might find enlightening. First, let me extend a warm welcome to our 179 new students and their families. We are happy you have joined our school community.
I'd also like to welcome our new faculty and staff. What an outstanding class of new employees we have added to our school! I have been extremely pleased with the talent and experience of candidates who are seeking a teaching or administrative position at Legacy. Clearly, Legacy Christian Academy is benefitting from our reputation as a great place to work.
This school year will be an important time of strategic planning for Legacy. The leadership team and board of directors have already held planning retreats to begin the process of envisioning the future of our school. This planning process includes a review of our mission, the identification of core values, and the adoption of a vision statement that describes where we are going as a school. This process is not limited to school leadership, however. Later this fall, we will be surveying current parents, students, faculty, and alumni to solicit their feedback regarding what they value and how well Legacy is performing in key areas. We are contracting with one of our membership organizations to administer a comprehensive survey that will help us determine the critical issues that deserve our attention. Stay tuned for more information about how you can contribute to the school improvement process.
During our pre-service activities earlier this month, I delivered a thematic message to the faculty and staff during our opening convocation, something I have done for most of the 26 years that I have served as head of school. This year, the title of my address was “Beyond Redemption: Preparing Students to Become Agents of Restoration.” In my message, I described the four major biblical themes—Creation, The Fall, Redemption, and Restoration—that make up the metanarrative of the Christian faith. Said another way, these four themes are a part of the grand story of God's design and purpose for His creation. So, how does this relate to “preparing students to become agents of restoration”? Well, it speaks to our very mission, which is to “equip strong leaders with biblical convictions for tomorrow.” The mission of Legacy Christian Academy is not limited to preparing students to be successful in college and introducing them to the person of Jesus Christ. Our mission goes “beyond college prep” and “beyond redemption.” We are truly preparing and equipping our students to become salt and light wherever they are and wherever they go. All believers are called to not only “make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19), but to actively participate in God's plan to restore His creation to the glorified state he intended it to be. In a very real sense, all Legacy students are “special agents in training” and all of our curriculum and programs are designed to equip these special agents.
Finally, I'd like to share an excerpt from a recent Instagram post by 2017 graduate, Brock Battaglia, who is now a freshman at the University of Hawaii.

Brock was just selected as a varsity cheerleader for the University of Hawaii and is already working as an “agent of restoration” on a campus that desperately needs to see and hear the good news of the gospel. Congratulations, Brock, and thank you for representing our Lord, your family, and Legacy Christian School with class and distinction.
