Meet Mr. O'Neal, Upper School Math Chair
In this installment of Meet the Teacher, we visited with Mr. George O'neal, Upper School math teacher and department chair.
Tell us a little about your background.
I grew up in Ohio and went to College at the University of Central Florida, where I earned my BA in Secondary Mathematics Education. I taught in Florida for many years. Prior to relocating to Texas, I was at The First Academy in Orlando, where I served as the upper school math department head.
What do you like most about teaching?
That look that a student gets in their eyes and the sense of confidence they gain when they learn and succeed at something new. I enjoy the great fellowship between faculty, students and parents. I also enjoy the excitement of high school extracurriculars, such as sports, drama and advisory clubs.
What do you enjoy outside of school?
I have recently enjoyed reading the Killing Lincoln and Killing Kennedy books by Bill O'Rielly. I also enjoy reading books by C.S. Lewis. I love all science fiction movies that are space-related, such as Star Trek and Star Wars. I am a member of Stonebriar Community Church. I also really enjoy baseball and football and love to attend Cowboy and Ranger games whenever possible.
Have you had the opportunity to lead any student trips?
I have had the privilege of working with Joshua Expeditions and Score International leading short term academic and sports mission trips to several US cities and Central America including Costa Rica.
