Distance Learning Plan

Middle School

Daily Schedule

During Distance Learning, it is our desire to continue to support across academic, socio-emotional, and spiritual indicators. In meeting these objectives, we believe it is important to keep their daily schedules as familiar as possible. This will support our students during our periods of distance learning and the return back to on-campus learning. LCA middle school students will follow the published on-campus classroom schedule listed below. Each morning, we will meet for our LCA middle school morning announcements, pledges, and birthday celebrations via Zoom. The student’s regular schedule will begin immediately following the morning announcements. It is fundamentally important that students have time to simply decompress. Throughout the day, students will have the opportunity to have time to move away from technology. Those time periods will include lunch and study halls. During distance learning, study halls will provide students with time to complete assignments during their virtual school day.

Learning Platforms

The Middle School will use Schoology as the learning platform and Zoom as the virtual classroom meeting space and conferencing tool. Our students have been trained and currently utilize Schoology during on-campus instruction. Additionally, parents have been provided access to Schoology. This will be useful in monitoring your child’s academic performance. The digital platforms will be used to support learning and meeting the needs of our students. During Distance Learning, students will be provided their individual school technology for use at home.  All platforms and apps are installed on these individual devices. If there are in questions related to Schoology, please reach out to Mrs. Courtney Jennings

Student Attendance

In order to be successful, students will need to attend daily classes. Teachers will provide attendance records to Ms. Jamie Smith. If a student is ill, parents can notify teachers via email and Ms. Jamie Smith. Students are expected to make up assignments in the same manner as on-campus. If students are consistently absent, Ms. Jamie Smith will notify the Assistant Principal. The Assistant Principal will reach out to parents to offer support in getting the students back on track.

Communication

In order for your child to be successful, communication with teachers will be essential. Communication with your child’s teacher will serve as an important academic and overall support tool so that we are meeting their needs. Teachers will be available during the hours of 8 am – 4 pm. If a conference is needed, teachers will be available to meet via Zoom regarding student and parent concerns/questions. If there are grade-specific questions, please reach out directly to our team leads. In terms of response time, the middle school faculty & staff will respond within a 24-hour time frame.
