Tonight the Lady Eagle Volleyball team journeys to Tyler, TX, the inaugural trip as a 4A school, for a match against Grace Community. Of their season thus far, junior Kirby Jarzombek reflected, “Our success this year has been a rollercoaster of wins and losses, but only good things have come out of it. Our team has learned so much about the game and each other, and it has prepared us extremely well for district. Our team motto, #ub4me, helps us remember that we always have each other's backs and are united, which keeps us motivated to work for each other and our goals.”
The Lady Eagles opened district play last Thursday with a bang, as they hosted Tyler All Saints, winning the first two games. The team then dropped games 3 and 4, but refused to quit. After several rallies, LCA earned their first 4A District Win 3-2 against Tyler All Saints. “The team did a great job of coming out on fire in front of our awesome fans. Then we kind of hit a slump, but the girls fought back, stuck with that they know on the court and got ‘er'done,” said head coach, Christy Williams. The Lady Eagles had a great overall skills game, recording 7 serving aces, 9 total blocks and 28 kills. Sophomore, Brinklee Bounds assisted in 23 of those kills. Junior Megan Beck summed up the three hour match well, “The length and fight we put into the game made the victory even sweeter!”
Junior Emma Lokar has her sights set forward, “We are all really looking forward to the remainder of district play and especially moving on into playoffs. We have worked really hard the past few weeks in practice to take our game to another level.”
Coach Williams added, “This group of girls are tough competitors in practice and in games. They want to win games. Kathryn May is our only senior and despite her small stature, she is a huge motivator and leader, holding the team accountable. The girls really want to make this a great senior year for May.”
