Liebert Bio & Signing Footage
Andrew John Liebert Jr, AKA Drew or Drewbie, spent the last 2 years as a student at Legacy Christian Academy and was born April 22nd, 1997 in Hickory, North Carolina. Although many would argue he was born with a basketball in his hands, Drew did not begin playing organized basketball until age 5.
Drew comes from a basketball rich family. His father Andrew Sr., played in college for both the University of Maine and Indiana/Purdue – Ft Wayne, where his mother also played. Drew's grandfather played for the University of Louisville with legendary players Wes Unseld and Butch Beard. His uncle & first cousin both played for the United States Naval Academy where his uncle was a starting forward on the 1986 Elite Eight basketball team and teammates with former San Antonio Spur, David Robinson.
Drew spent the majority of his club basketball years playing for the Plano based Texas Hoosier Basketball club, coached by his father. Over 7 plus years, his team won multiple tournaments compiling over 40 victories per summer each of the last 3 years. His club basketball career culminated in July, 2015 in Louisville, Kentucky with a 17U AAU National Championship.
In high school, Drew played varsity basketball for 2 years at LCA. During his time at LCA, he earned many honors including 3 All-Tournament Selections and earning Academic All-State twice. He also earned the following honors:
- District Newcomer of the year,
- 2nd Team All District,
- Offensive Player of the Year,
- 1st Team All District honors.
During his senior year, Drew was named co-captain and team MVP. Drew's favorite memory was beating Brook Hill at home and getting stuck at Whataburger for 2 hours after until 1AM.
Drew was offered the opportunity to play college basketball at several schools but chose Maine Maritime Academy for its academic and athletic commitment, and will major in Power Engineering. Coach Muchnick, Maine Maritime Academy Head basketball coach, was the first school to recruit him and remained diligent and committed to Drew throughout the process. Among his favorite memories about being recruited by Coach Muchnick are the many letters/wanted posters he received weekly. They were very entertaining.
Drew would like to thank Coach Johnson for his unending faith in him. Without his support there wouldn't have been an end result as this. He would also like to thank Coach Parlin and Coach Medrano for continually encouraging and making him better. Drew would most like to thank his father for every moment spent in the front yard shooting basketball, which encouraged and created lasting memories, and helped him become the player he is today. It is difficult being a coach's son, but Drew wouldn't trade it for anything.
His advice for fellow LCA students is to work on the small things. Because it is from these things a great foundation can be built towards a distinguished character and life.
Josh has attended Legacy for 14 years. He started playing football in Kindergarten for the FFL Tigers and continued to play for them through the 6th grade. During this time he was coached primarily by former NFL Linebacker Glenn Sanders, who initially kindled Josh's interest in Football. Over the years, Coach Sanders has continued to stay in touch with Josh, providing encouragement and advice during Jr High and High School.
In Jr High, Josh started his football at Legacy, playing for Coach McCollum who started developing Josh's leadership on the football field.
During HS, he has worked with many youth football camps, including the “PART” camp, and others. He also served as an assistant coach on the 2015 FFL Horned Frogs and participated in helping lead the Bible Study for the high school guys at Legacy.
In High School, Josh played Varsity all 4 years, starting both on offense and defense his last 3 years. He received many honors during his High School Career, such as TJ Tomeny Fighting Heart Award and 1st team all-district his sophomore year, Academic All-state Junior and Senior year and being named team captain by his teammates and coaches his senior year as well as being named the team MVP. He played many positions including Linebacker, Tackle, Fullback, Center, and Guard. All of his achievements pale in comparison to the team accomplishments he helped make a reality, like 3 playoff appearances, going 5-3 in playoffs, and being able to be the first Legacy football team in playoffs at 4A.
Josh would like to thank his mentors during his HS Football career, including Coach Embry, Coach Hardage, and Coach Lane.
Josh had many opportunities to play Football in college, but chose Hendrix College due to the relationships with the coaches and the overall academic fit. The Hendrix College football team completed their third season in the Southern Athletic Association, and they will be looking forward to their first Senior Class next year. Josh plans on majoring in computer science.
His favorite memory at LCA was beating Prince of Peace and Brook Hill to make it to the State Playoffs during his senior year. His advice to other High School students is: be purposeful with everything you do, whether it is something of a large or minuscule importance, do not allow time to pass that had no meaning, because time is too precious. And more importantly make sure your purpose is to glorify the One who gave you the time to use.
