Fall is in the air, and that means that The Legacy Choral music department is about to turn up the heat! We visited with Fine Arts & Choral Music Director, Sandra Clark, about what's on the horizon.

When can we see the choirs in action?

LCA will host a free concert entitled From Seas to Shining Seas, Songs of America on Monday, October 13 at 7:00pm to be held in Stonebriar Community Church's Multipurpose Building. The concert will include performances by the Upper School Chamber and Ensemble Choirs, Intermediate School Tone Rangers and Bel Cantos, and LCA Show Choir.

What competitions are our students preparing for?

Students are preparing for TPSMEA MSHC (Translated: Texas Private School Music Educators Association, Middle School Honor Choir) auditions and High School All State Auditions. Students learn 2 selections of music which are recorded individually by the first week of October to be judged by choral directors from around the state of Texas. Students who are selected to the MSHC will participate in a concert on November 15 at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Plano. Upper School students selected to the All Region choir will perform in a concert January 10 at Trinity Christian Academy, followed by the All State Band, Choir, and Orchestra weekend concert on January 31, 2015 in San Marcos, TX.

How do these competitions benefit Legacy & our students?

Students who are selected to the MSHC and All State Choirs have allowed Legacy to be recognized around the state of Texas as a competitive and strong music program. In fact, last year, TPSMEA recognized Legacy's support of the fine arts by honoring Dr. Harmon as administrator of the year.

By participating in these concerts, students have the opportunity to sing in a select choir with students from all around the state. Students often work with the actual composers of the literature they're singing, which allows them to understand why the composer wrote the work and what goes into the creation of writing a piece of music. As a result, students return to Legacy better singers and leaders within their own choral music programs.
