Yesterday, the library hosted a brunch complete with bluebonnet books, blue foods, and breakdancing. Legacy third through sixth graders who read at least five of the books nominated for the Bluebonnet Award were eligible to vote for their favorite in January. Earlier this month, the winning book, When the Beat was Born: DJ Kool Herc and the Creation of Hip Hop, was announced. To celebrate, they had a special opportunity to eat a blue-themed brunch with Legacy Librarian, Mrs. Hamilton, who dressed up as Hip Hopper and taught the students about the Father of Hip Hop, DJ Kool Herc, and his passion for breakdancing. Students also learned breakdancing moves and listened to DJ Kool's music.

One Legacy student, Ashley Webb, was selected to attend the Texas Library Association conference in Houston this year. Ashley will have the honor of giving the winning author their trophy at the conference, alongside Mrs. Hunt, Mrs. Blanscet, and Mrs. Hamilton. “This is very exciting for Ashley and Legacy,” comments Mrs. Hamilton. “It's a pretty big deal.”
