Fine Arts

Legacy Christian Academy recognizes the importance of a fine arts education and developing a well-rounded student. We believe that God has given everyone the gift of expression. The Fine Arts Department at LCA works to develop the God given talents of each student by training them in singing, playing of an instrument, acting, and the creative beauty of visual arts. At LCA we recognize the importance of using God-given talents and we believe that:

  • The arts promote creativity, thinking, and joy.
  • The arts offer different ways to make meaning.
  • The arts reflect and influence cultures.
  • The arts promote aesthetic literacy.
  • The arts prepare students for full participation in society.

Lower School Music (PreK - Grade 4)

Lower School Music

In Lower School music, students learn the basic music fundamentals such as rhythm, steady beat, matching pitch, music theory, ear training, and music history through various activities and exercises. Students in preschool through second grade learn by way of the Kodaly method in which the students’ main instruments are their voices. Once these fundamentals have been grasped, older students in the third and fourth grade are educated through the Orff methodology in which students strengthen key concepts and are exposed to more percussion and Orff instruments.

LCA Honor Choir

Students in 4th & 5th grades who have a passion for singing may audition at the beginning of each school year for this select choir.  Rehearsals are held once a week after school. Students perform at school, community, and festival events.

Grade 5 Fine Arts Rotation

Fine Arts Grade 5

During their fifth grade year, each student completes a cycle of instruction in each of the Fine Arts. Students typically spend twelve weeks in Choir, Band, and Visual Arts, learning the fundamentals of each discipline.  Choir students learn to sing one and two-part choral literature.  Band students are introduced to a variety of brass and woodwind instruments.  Meanwhile, Art students learn to master the basics of drawing, painting, and graphics and three-dimensional design.

This important year provides students with the capstone in the survey courses while laying a foundation for advanced work in the discipline of their choice.  Students in grades six and above select one course from the choices of Band only, Choir only, Band and Choir, or Art.

LCA Honor Choir

Students in 4th & 5th grades who have a passion for singing may audition at the beginning of each school year for this select choir.  Rehearsals are held once a week after school. Students perform at school, community, and festival events.

Art

Visual Arts

A highlight of any stroll through the Legacy campus is always the fabulous student artwork! LCA's Visual Arts program is a blend of art history, art appreciation, and studio work. Students in kindergarten through grade 5 have art classes once a week. Students in Grades 6-12 have the opportunity to take art classes 5 days a week.

The Visual Arts Department is a member school of both TAPPS (Texas Private and Parochial Schools), ACSI (Associated Christian Schools International), and PSIA (Private Schools Interscholastic Association). The students participate and enter various competitions throughout the year and have received state-wide recognition for their art with many Best of Shows, Gold Medals, Silver Medals and 1st and 2nd place awards.

Lower School Art

The goal of the Lower School art program is to encourage creative expression while experiencing a wide variety of media and technique.  These methods will strengthen self confidence and fine motor skills while developing creative abilities.  Students will also begin to understand the importance of a Biblical Worldview in observing and creating works of art.  Students will participate in ASCI and PSIA art competitions as well as art displays within the local community.

Intermediate School Art

Students in the Intermediate School art program attend their Fine Arts elective every day, providing a greater opportunity to develop a sense of personal expression in their visual work.  A cyclical curriculum introduces students to a wide variety of art forms with a strong foundation in classical drawing and painting, as well as ceramics, sculptural forms and an introduction to digital media.

Lessons are designed to introduce students to some 100 great works of art as the foundation for visual exploration and personal creativity.  Students learn to look up to the Creator and His Word, back to the great masters, and ahead to filling their own place in the world of Art.

Upper School Art

The goal of the upper school art program is to develop the artistic talents of students to help them reach their artistic goals. The first two years will introduce students to a wide range of medias through the study of the Art History. Students then have the opportunity to take digital art courses and to apply for the Pre AP and AP Art class. The Digital Art classes expose students to the Adobe Creative Suite giving them design skills and training. In the PreAP and AP classes students will work to complete a portfolio to submit to art colleges and or the College Board for potential college credit. Students will understand the importance and impact of creating art that is a reflection of their Christian beliefs and glorifies their creator.
