Legacy boys and girls soccer teams advanced to the postseason in soccer's return to campus! The men finished their season with a12-19-1 record. The Eagles traveled to Austin Regents for the first playoff game, where they rallied after trailing 0-1 for much of the game, scoring 3 goals within 10 minutes for the victory. In the second round, they fell 0-2 to Grapevine Faith.
Scoring 80 total goals, second most in TAPPS Division II, the Eagles managed a top-ten TAPPS state soccer ranking throughout their season and cracked the top-twenty MaxPreps Texas Private School Rankings. Season highlights include a dramatic penalty shootout win over Brighter Horizons, the Division II top-ranked team, as well as 5-1 win over perennial powerhouse Prince of Peace at Comstock Field.
Holt Kelly, senior co-captain, led the Eagles with 36 goals and 8 assists and was one of 11 Eagles to receive all district team honors. Of his first and final Legacy soccer season, Kelly said, “As a first year team, many had low expectations for us, but we made it out of district and into the second round of playoffs. This season has been a ton of fun, and I believe that the team only continue improve.”
Reflecting on the season, Head Coach Erik Krotz shared, “It was a great honor to be the head coach of the return season for men's soccer here at LCA. We had an outstanding group of young men come out and dedicate themselves to the team. There were moments of struggle, but without that struggle, there can be no progress. And at the conclusion of the season, we had reached many of the goals we had set out to accomplish: a winning season, beating a Division I Program, making TAPPS playoffs, and winning a Playoff round game. I am very proud of the way the players developed in such a short amount of time.”
Looking forward, the Eagles return nine team members, who with over 1000 minutes of playing time in 24 games gained valuable experience. Said Krotz, “We have a long way to go in building this program into an annual state contender, and I look forward to the challenge.”
Scoring 37 goals in district, the Lady Eagles finished second with a record of 8-4, and an overall record of 12-5-2 saw them in and out of the TAPPS top-ten rankings throughout the season. To determine final district seeding and playoff seeding, the Lady Eagles buried each of their 5 penalty kicks in a shootout battle against Prince of Peace. A key save by keeper Sydney Banks, secured the victory. The Lady Eagles then battled Tyler All-Saints to 0-0 regulation score on the road, before allowing a goal in the waning minutes of overtime for a 0-1 loss.
Head Coach, Rachel Cating, said of her team's success, “This was a great inaugural season for Lady Eagle Soccer! The team surpassed all my expectations with a strong district finish and playoff berth. I loved getting to coach this special group of young ladies.”
Sophie Pritzkau, senior captain, was one of six Lady Eagles earning all-district honors. She, who scored 4 goals, had 2 assists, and was a perfect 4-for-4 on PK's, shared “It was great to finally be able to represent Legacy and compete with my friends in the sport I love. As the only senior, I am grateful for the opportunity I had to lead and for all the memories…and bus rides!”
With only one senior graduating and large group of returning juniors, the future is bright for Lady Eagle Soccer. Cating commented, “I'm confident they will step up and do big things next year on and off the field for Legacy.”
