My favorite memory of this golf season was when we had a putting contest. It was freezing cold and I had a bunch of jackets on and shaking while the guys were in their shorts putting and laughing like nothing. During the game, we would try to get into each other's head and seeing the guys focusing and making fun of each other was the funniest thing. Golf is an individual sport but this season it felt like I had a team to support me throughout the year. Next season I’m looking forward to improving my game and growing stronger as a team.

The 2018-19 season was an outstanding one for the LCA golf program. The boys' team set very ambitious goals for the season and ultimately captured five tournament titles, including the TAPPS 5A District 1 Championship. In addition to the boys' team, Tatum Plunk and Sophia Lucio laid a solid foundation for the future of the girls' program. Both young ladies worked hard to improve their games and experienced personal-best 18-hole scores during tournament competition.

A few highlights from the season include capturing the title at the prestigious Jesuit Invitational held at Brookhaven Country Club with a score of 306, defeating a number of strong programs, including the host school. The Eagles then captured the TAPPS 5A District Championship at Fossil Creek Golf Club by nine shots. In addition to the boys' success, both Sophia and Tatum advanced to the TAPPS regional competition with their outstanding performances in the district tournament.

The boys' team saved their best performance of the year for the State Championship at Squaw Valley Golf Course in Glen Rose, TX. Their first-round score of 298 was the lowest score of the season, and their second round total of 301 was the second-best. They were led by freshman Minas Manias whose 2-day total of 137 (7-under par) established a school-record for 36 holes in TAPPS competition. His performance at state earned him All-State recognition.

I loved seeing my team compete at a high level and claiming the “District Champion” title. Specifically, my favorite memory was at regionals finding out that our team had qualified for the TAPPS 5A State Tournament. I remember very vividly all the emotions that went with it. Our team was ecstatic and humbled that we were given the opportunity to battle it out against some of the most talented golfers in the state. The one thing that I will miss the most is being around my amazing teammates. I will miss all of the early tournament mornings and the many laughs that we shared at tournaments and at practice.

The future of the Legacy Christian Academy golf program is bright. Gavin Morrow and Nolan Winkler, two rising seniors who both had outstanding performances this season, will take the reins from graduating seniors Jace Edgmon and Tito Martinez. As the team seeks to return to the State Championship next year, Minas's development as a golfer will be important as his skills are expected to lead the way. Another rising senior, Andrew Shadle, continued to improve his play and is positioned to be an important contributor next year. Other returning team members are rising juniors Harrison Tyler, Tate Winkler, Toby Sopp and Hunter Hansing. The program will also look to the addition of some talented players moving up from Middle School.

My favorite memory was at the state competition when I almost made a hole-in-one and also came close to getting an albatross in the second round. Next season, I’m most excited about having the opportunity to win a state championship.
