LCA incoming senior, Shannon Hunt, has been selected as a member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra's (GDYO) Philharmonic. Comprised of approximately 100 high school aged members from across the Dallas – Ft. Worth Metroplex, the Philharmonic is a full symphony orchestra combining strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion to perform a wide variety of symphonic music. The GDYO Philharmonic is directed by Mr. James Frank and performs three concerts annually including a performance at the Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.
Shannon has played violin and fiddle for eleven years. She has previously performed with GDYO's Sinfonietta, Dallas String Ensemble and the Young Performers Orchestra, as well as the Collin County Youth Orchestra. She has also been named to the Texas Private Music Educators Association (TPSMEA) High School Region and All State Orchestras.
Shannon's passion for music extends to bluegrass and old time fiddle. She has performed in fiddle and old time music events across the Southeastern United States. Shannon finished in the top three in Traditional Fiddle at the 2014 Grand Master Fiddle Contest at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, Tennessee. She has also appeared on stage with country music star Pam Tillis. Shannon will travel to Bean Blossom, Indiana later this month to compete on stage in the John Hartford Memorial Bluegrass Festival Fiddle Contest.
