Legacy Christian Academy is proud to announce that on April 18th, Seniors Sophia Polanski and Heidi Taunton captured the TAPPS 5A State Championship in doubles tennis. The dynamic duo showcased their skills and talent throughout the tournament, dominating their opponents with their exceptional teamwork, communication, and strategic play. Their hard work and dedication paid off, as they won each match with determination and focus, ultimately clinching the state championship title.

Sophia Polanski and Heidi Taunton's victory marks a historic moment for Legacy, as they become the first doubles team from the school to win a state championship in tennis. Their success is a testament to their unwavering commitment to their goals, as well as the guidance and expertise of their coaches, Andy Franco and Toni Thrash.

”Sophia and Heidi showed such poise in finishing off their opponent in the final!” said Coach Toni Thrash. “It is a true testament to their hard work on the court this season that helped them win the State Championship! Coach Franco and I are so proud of them as our first girls' state champs! They have also led the team well as our stellar team captains this year.”

Says new state champ Heidi, “Having played tennis since a young age, this was the best feeling to end my tennis career at Legacy – in my last match, with my amazing doubles partner Sophia, and to capture the state championship! It was a lot of hard work, but it sure was a lot of fun, too.” The duo credit their success to their mutual trust, respect, and chemistry, as well as the support of their families, friends, and teammates.

The girls' team finished as the runner-up, showcasing their exceptional talent and commitment to excellence. Sophomore Abigail Diamond also made a great showing in the singles competition, earning a second-place finish. She had a huge comeback in the semi-final! After winning the first set in a tiebreak, she was down 2-5 in the 2nd set and fought back to win in another tiebreak!
