Recently, I had the opportunity to step in for Mr. Mosley and lead our New Parent Breakfast and evening meeting. As a new staff member of just three months, the irony was not unnoticed that I was tasked with sharing the rich history of Legacy Christian Academy with families who were just beginning their journey with us. I read through Mr. Mosley’s notes, asked questions of those who had been here much longer, and quickly realized one profound truth: God has faithfully used a variety of leaders, each with their own unique gifts, to advance the mission of Legacy Christian Academy.
Reflecting on this history, I was amazed at how God brought each head of school to Legacy at just the right time to move the school forward. Our founding Head of School, Jody Capehart, was the visionary who brought the founders together and helped launch LCA. Her leadership established the foundational mission of creating a Christ-centered school, and her passion for Christian education set the tone for what was to come.
When Dr. Harmon stepped in as head of school, he focused on growth, both in terms of student enrollment and physical expansion. Under his leadership, the school grew rapidly, laying the groundwork for the incredible growth we have experienced in recent years. He positioned LCA for a future filled with promise and possibility, preparing the way for the next phase of development.
Mr. McGee took the baton and built on Mr. Harmon’s foundation, continuing to expand our campus while initiating some of the school’s distinctive programs, such as the Professional Schools program, Spanish Immersion and the Legacy Annual Fund. His visionary leadership helped shape Legacy’s future and opened up new opportunities for students to explore their passions and potential.
And now, Mr. Mosley is driving Legacy Christian Academy forward with a renewed focus on excellence in biblical immersion, and spiritual formation. His passion for discipleship and equipping students to engage with the world from a Christ-centered perspective has further cemented our mission and deepened our commitment to serving God’s purposes in education.
If these leaders are anything like me (and most people), I’m sure there were times they doubted themselves. Am I the right person for this job? Do I have the tools needed to lead this ministry? Is this really what God wants? It is during my times of doubt I try to reflect on HOW God has brought me to where I am, because if God has directed me, then I know I am where I am supposed to be!
I’m reminded of the story of David in 1 Samuel 16. Just as God chose David to be king, raising him up at the right time to fulfill His plans for Israel, so too has God faithfully raised up each leader at LCA according to His perfect timing. Each leader has faced different challenges and opportunities, but all have been part of God’s greater vision for HIS school. Through their unique strengths and leadership styles, God has advanced His purpose for Legacy, and we have seen His faithfulness every step of the way.
As we celebrate 25 years of God’s faithfulness, I am reminded that it is not just the vision of one person or one moment that has brought us to where we are today. God directed each board member, leader, faculty, and family throughout the history of LCA to serve at His appointed time, and equipped them to do it!
God has a calling for you right now as well. I don’t know exactly what your calling is, but I know God doesn’t call you to do something He won’t equip you for. We can trust the Lord will be faithful to LCA and faithful to us as we seek to serve Him.
