It's been a long time coming…nearly 20 years. For the first time in Legacy history, our Boys Varsity Basketball Team brought home the TAPPS 5A State Championship! It was a thrilling game to watch, and the energy in the gym at West High was incredible. Over the course of the playoffs, Head Coach Cole Johnson noted “The Eagle Nation travels. Every game was a home game. They tore the roof off of every place!”

Legacy dominated right from the start, and always led by at least six points once they established their lead early in the first quarter. Legacy junior Aren Terrien led the shooting efforts with a game-high of 17 points, followed by fellow juniors Jonathan Alexandre and Garrett Pelham, with 16 points apiece. Legacy led at half-time by a margin of ten points and continued their dominance throughout the game. They continued to extend their lead and finished with a decisive 66 to 51 victory over the Pioneers of Houston Lutheran South. “These guys have been relentlessly dialed in,” noted Johnson. “They have been willingly pulling away from distractions, and making sacrifices. Yes, it’s a win for Boys Basketball, but it is a win for Legacy, for the Eagle Nation.”

The Eagles began their road to the school's first-ever basketball state championship by first capturing the TAPPS 5A – District 1 championship and therefore earning a BYE in the first round of the state playoffs. The #4-ranked Eagles defeated Dallas Christian 64-58 in the second round of the playoffs.

The quarter-final showdown against #1-ranked powerhouse Trinity Christian Academy Cedar Hill thrilled audiences as the Eagles outlasted the Tigers for the exciting 62-60 victory. The team was led by junior Aren Terrien who posted a season-high 27 points as the Eagles punched their ticket to the TAPPS Final Four for the second time in three years.

The Eagles faced Bishop Gormon High School from Tyler, TX in the semi-final game on Thursday.  Behind the continuing dominance of junior Aren Terrien who posted 12 first-half points, the Eagles finished the first half with a commanding 37-19 lead.  Legacy maintained the 18-point lead throughout the second half to secure the victory and the opportunity for a first-ever basketball championship.
