As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the universe, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have come to fullness in him, who is the head of every ruler and authority.” — Colossians 2:6-10

As we continue to consider the foundation of Christian education, we must recognize Christ’s preeminence in all things which includes the education of our children. Because of the death and resurrection of Christ, His name has been exalted above all (Ephesians 2:9-10). Jesus created all things and all things were created for Him (Romans 11:36) – including our children. By centering the education of our youth on Christ, it will lead our children to the goal of salvation and a relationship with Him forever.

John Milton wrote in the 1600’s in his personal epistle aimed at the training of youth entitled, Of Education: “The end then of learning is to repair the ruins of our first parents by regaining to know God aright, and out of that knowledge to love Him, to imitate Him, to be like Him…”

We make Christ preeminent in education so that our students will return to Him who first loved them (1 John 4:19) and gave His life for each of them (John 3:16).
