We are pleased to announce that Legacy Christian Academy's Upper School has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School for 2017 by U.S. Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, for outstanding academic achievement. The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students either achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap.

“National Blue Ribbon Schools are active demonstrations of preparing every child for a bright future,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to the honorees. “You are visionaries, innovators and leaders. You have much to teach us: some of you personalize student learning, others engage parents and communities in the work and life of your local schools and still others develop strong and forward-thinking leaders from among your teaching staff.”

To be recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School, students must rank in the top 15% on nationally standardized tests, such as the ACT or SAT. In addition to academic success, Legacy is being recognized for low student-teacher ratios, high graduation rates, 100 percent college acceptance rate, as well as excellence in mentoring instruction, core curriculum, community service, and leadership philosophy.

“Being recognized as an Exemplary High Performing School is an honor that we cherish and a testament of the covenant partnership we have forged with our parents, teachers, administrators and students,” shared Bill McGee, Legacy Head of School. “We are proud that our commitment to academic excellence has been rewarded in such a worthy manner.”

The Council for American Private Education selects 50 private schools nationwide for nomination each year to the US Department of Education. Legacy is the only high school in Frisco to receive this award since its inception in 1982 and is one of only two non-public high schools currently named Nation Blue Ribbon Schools in Texas. Additionally:

  • Only 54 faith-based high schools in Texas have been awarded in the history of NBRS
  • Only 18 faith-based high schools in Metroplex have been awarded in the history of NBRS
  • Only 19 High Schools are current NBRS in Texas
  • Only 23 non-public high schools are current NBRS in the United States

Now in its 35th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has bestowed recognition on more than 8,500 schools. On Nov. 6-7, the Secretary and the Department of Education will celebrate with these honorees at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. Mr. Kevin Mosley, Upper School Principal, and Mr. Daniel Townsley, Chief Academic Officer, will accept the award at the recognition ceremony on behalf of Legacy.

“This recognition is a testament to the amazing faculty and staff God has called to the Upper School of Legacy Christian Academy. Knowing students, loving students, and preparing students to be strong leaders with Biblical convictions remains our heartbeat. We are blessed to be commended by National Blue Ribbon Schools and celebrate the excellence attained for God's glory.” –Kevin Mosley

Legacy Christian Academy is Frisco's only PreK-12 Christian school committed to educating students in a college preparatory environment balanced in academics, athletics, and fine arts — all within the context of a Biblical worldview.
