Legacy families might notice a new face on the sidelines this year as we bring onboard Matt Blimline as our new head athletic trainer. Matt originally received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, where he studied health and physical education, athletic training, and pre-med. The Philadelphia native earned his master's degree in health sciences with a focus in education from the University of St. Augustine, where he is nearing completion of his Doctorate in Education with a focus on administration.

Lynn Dupree, Legacy’s Senior Director of Athletics and Activities stated, “We are very excited to have Matt Blimline on our team! Along with his hiring comes thirty-plus years of experience and knowledge in the sports medicine arena. His love for athletic training has motivated him to improve in his craft yearly. This is evident as he is on the home stretch to earn his Doctorate in Education.”

Matt's career has allowed him to be around some of the best in the world. Throughout his tenure, he has served on the medical staff in various settings, including the NFL, NBA, PGA, minor league sports, and collegiate sports. This summer he served on the medical staff with the USA track and field decathlon and heptathlon athletes as they competed against Germany in the Thorp Cup.

For over 30 years, Matt has spent most of his time in the secondary school setting as a director of sports medicine/head athletic trainer, educator, athletic director, and associate athletic director. Matt plays an active role in professional athletic training organizations at the local, district, and national levels. Prior to COVID, Matt spent several weeks abroad studying the medical system in Italy.

Matt shares, “I chose to be a part of LCA due to the school's reputable commitment to integrating a faith-based education. When interviewing for the position of an athletic trainer, I saw a vision and commitment from the administration to build a better future for the LCA community. I believe that my diverse background in education, administration, and sports medicine will complement and help strengthen LCA’s programs. Most of all, I thank God for his blessing and guidance in leading me towards such a blessed opportunity to serve LCA in His name.”

In addition to his vast experience in sports medicine, we are most excited about Matt’s solid spiritual foundation. Matt participates in various bible studies, and serves as an extraordinary minister, usher, and fourth-order Knight of Columbus, at St. Francis of Assisi in Frisco, Texas. Matt currently resides in Frisco with his wife of 33 years Marybeth. They have one daughter, Allison, who is 29, and two dogs, Lilly, and Cuppy.

Legacy is thrilled to have such an experienced athletic trainer join our team this year. We look forward to seeing the direction he takes our athletic department and the many students and staff he will be able to serve and educate with his experience. Lynn Dupree remarked, “Our student-athletes will benefit from his care, our coaches will benefit from his knowledge, and Legacy will benefit from his leadership.” With this, we wish Matt a great first year as head athletic trainer and the impact he will have on our school.
