On a gorgeous fall Saturday, Legacy Christian Academy hosted the 2018 TPSMEA State Marching Contest at Comstock field. The Screamin’ Eagle Band, led by Drum Major Sophie Perry, competed again in Class 1 this year with one of the hardest lineups of bands from the DFW and Houston areas in recent years. Having the former 12-time, TPSMEA, Class 2 band now competing in Class 1, guaranteed an exciting, challenging competition. LCA performed in the eighth position and delivered their best performance of the year, capturing an amazing seventh state championship in eight years!

What a season this has been… RAIN…With all the rain, I was worried we wouldn’t be able to finish the drill to the end of the show. When the sun came out, the kids got to work! Hard work pays off! It’s been amazing to see this band grow this year–not only as musicians, but as a family! I have been praying for years to see the band continue to grow as a family. I’m blessed to be able to teach these wonderful students. I have the privilege to work with an amazing staff. Mrs. Webb, Mr. Ahlgren and Mrs. Davis are amazing educators and pour their hearts into the kids here at Legacy.

This has been such an amazing season with amazing people. I have loved seeing how the band has grown since band camp. From early morning practices to late night rehearsals, all of our hard work paid off at State. I’m so blessed to have had the opportunity to be drum major and to work with some of the best people. This is my favorite year that I have been in the band program, all because of the outstanding band of which I am blessed to be a part.

After being in the marching band for 6 years, I’ve never experienced a family like our band family. Rehearsal after rehearsal, we worked hard out on the field to not only achieve greatness but ultimately, bring glory to God. Winning that first place trophy at state was an absolute honor. Our hard work had finally paid off. We used our gifts as the Lord called us to and He blessed us with a victory. We won it as a family. Everyone played a part. Everyone worked hard. Everyone received the victory. I’m beyond proud of how this band has grown as a family and has grown to be incredible musicians and performers. I am proud to be a part of it.
