Ben Hamilton
LCA Class of 2020

With new turf beneath them, Legacy graduates Ben Hamilton ‘20 and Jake Frater ‘19 are ready to hit the field together again this weekend, this time as Baylor Bears. Previously teammates in separate graduating classes at Legacy, these young men are ready to embrace the 2020 football season in Waco. A season that wasn’t promised, during a year we could have never predicted, this goal feels extra meaningful to both of these Legacy alumni. They will kick off their inaugural season at Baylor this weekend, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to watch these Eagles take flight, once again proudly wearing the green and gold, just now as Bears.

Jake Frater, LCA Class of 2019, joins the Baylor Football team this season on the Offensive Line. With a year of college football under his belt at The College of Wooster, Jake is thrilled about his transition to the Big XII. As one of the nation’s premier athletic conferences, the rich tradition and mutual interest to transition lead Jake to Baylor. As reported from his coaches at Wooster, Jake contributed right away to their program. He spent most of his rookie season primarily on special teams, where he was listed as one of the team’s top backup linemen. He spent his freshman year gaining a stronger work ethic and real playing time as part of a successful program. His experiences have given him a formidable knowledge base in terms of what is expected of him and how best to contribute to the Bears this season. When asked about the reunion between the two Eagles, Jake stated, “It feels great knowing Ben is another LCA Eagle on the roster. It almost feels like we are back in the LCA football days!”

Ben’s path to Baylor may look different, but he is equally excited to take the field once again. With a transition almost directly after his graduation in May 2020, Ben moved to Waco to begin summer workouts and training in his position as a linebacker. Reflecting on his time in the program so far, Ben shared, “The game is a whole new level and there is so much to learn. Throughout the summer we have been doing summer workouts and just started fall camp. COVID-19 has made things a little different because of all of the procedures we have to go through, but we are still working as a team to get better.” With that, Ben voiced the importance of learning the game from the veterans in the program and the anticipation that comes with seeing the work they have put in reflected in their first game. Gratitude is what we saw the most when talking with Ben –  the opportunity to be a part of a program like Baylor’s doesn’t come around often.

Whether spending a year at another college preparing for Baylor or transitioning directly to the Big XII, these two young men have a common goal: to use their gifts from the Lord for His glory, while playing for a program with an impeccable reputation. From Eagles to Bears to whatever comes next… God be the glory!
