Legacy Senior Braxton Edrington was honored as a 2019 Scholar-Athlete Honoree at the 11th annual NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Awards Banquet last Sunday. Braxton was one of only 74 North Texas high school football players chosen to be recognized. Legacy Head Football Coach Scott Smith selected Braxton as Legacy’s nominee based on his academics, football work ethic, and leadership.
Once the nominations are received, the selection committee, comprised of coaches, teachers, administrators and business leaders from North Texas, evaluate the college and high school candidates based on their athletic accomplishments, academic performance, and leadership in the community.
He was a natural for the award as “Braxton is a leader among his peers and a hard worker. His effort, attitude, and commitment to his teammates is second to none”, shared Coach Scot McCollum. Edrington reflected on the award “I was honored to have been selected to attend along with the other great athletes from the area and grateful to my coaches and teammates who pushed me to be in a position to be selected for the award.”

He is a great young man. I so enjoyed coaching him this past season. He was Newcomer of the year in our Football District, as well as 2nd Team Running Back and Defensive Back. He is strong in his academics, a leader on the field and in the school. He pursues the Lord in all that he does. I love Braxton and am very proud of him for receiving this Scholar-Athlete Award.
The NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas is one of 120 nationwide chapters of the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame.
