Tuesday, March 21, was declared “Lauren Keith Day” by Mayor Maher Maso at the Frisco City Council meeting. The honor was bestowed upon Lauren, a junior at Legacy, after she placed second in the American Legion Oratorical Contest.

The contest exists to encourage students to grow in their leadership skills and knowledge of our nation. Lauren spoke to an audience of Veterans on important subjects about our nation and was judged on her originality, directness, description, logic, voice, language, and poise.

Lauren alongside Mrs. Grubbs, Upper School Government teacher, practiced for months, diligently working on speaking techniques and memorization strategies.

Reflecting on the experience, Lauren comments, “It was such a great honor to speak about how valuable our democracy is and to have people who have fought to defend it as my audience.”

Lauren was chosen for this contest because she excelled in Government class and is an avid member of Legacy's Mock Trial team. Mrs. Grubbs states, “Lauren achieving second place as a junior is such an accomplishment.” Lauren plans to compete again next year.
