Legacy Christian Academy’s Upper School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Kara Hermogeno as the Dean of Engineering/ Medicine for the upcoming 2018-19 school year. Mrs. Hermogeno received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Iowa State University and has over 15 years of experience in both chemical and mechanical engineering. She has previously worked in research and development where she served on a team that successfully obtained a patent for a biodegradable mosquito insecticide pellet that was used to help manage the mosquito population in Florida. She also assisted in developing a pilot ethanol plant powered by solar and wind energy. Upon hearing the call to teach, she became certified in technology, physics, automation/ robotics as well as gifted/ talented. Last year, she served as the VEX coordinator for the Prestwick STEM Academy in Little Elm.

In addition to her engineering and teaching experience, Mrs. Hermogeno has a passion for the discipleship of young people. She served on staff of The Navigators ministry working with college students in discipleship and evangelism. She has participated in several mission trips overseas to various destinations such as Greece, India, and Dominican Republic.

I am looking forward to sharing my passions for the Lord, teaching and engineering with the students. With over 15 years of engineering experience I am very blessed and excited to join Legacy and get students excited about engineering and medicine. I look forward to assisting them in the exploration of classroom concepts with real-life experiences as they pursue God’s calling on their lives. I come with great expectations of the Lord doing awesome things for the students, parents and staff as we begin this new opportunity together.”

Upper School Principal Kevin Mosley shared this: “Mrs. Hermogeno brings a wealth of experience both from the engineering and education fields. Our students will benefit greatly from her passion for the Lord, her contagious energy for education, her connections in the field of engineering and her demonstrated commitment to discipling the next generation for the Kingdom.”

Mrs. Hermogeno and her husband Caesar have two children: Pete, who is a fourth-grader and Grace, who is currently in second grade. Mrs. Hermogeno will oversee the School of Engineering and Medicine for the 2018-19 school year. Additional deans, including a dedicated Dean of Medicine, will be hired in the 2019-20 school year.
