Every year, Legacy sixth graders head out east to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Sky Ranch in Van, Texas. It's an exciting trip designed to help students develop a deeper knowledge of science and nature, grow closer as a class, and strengthen their relationships with God.
Favorite activities this year included trail rides, flying down the zip line, and playing game after game of GaGa Ball. For Faith Dibley, the highlight of the trip was the Night at the Livery, where students spent the evening riding mechanical bulls, making s'mores, and playing dodgeball.
Not only do students enjoy this trip, but the sixth grade teachers look forward to it every fall, because it gives them the opportunity to teach their students outside of the classroom, which they all agree is a much more effective way of learning. When students are learning about nature, while surrounded by nature, they are significantly more engaged and attentive. Not only will memories of this fun trip stay with them for years, but so will the knowledge they absorbed.
When asked about the trip, Dr. Dorsey said that he really enjoyed seeing the students “beaming with joy” and loved their “big smiles.” Mrs. Bellue shared his excitement and added that their time spent at Sky Ranch “provided a special time for the students to come together and bond as a class, as well as a time for the teachers to get to know and appreciate the sixth grade class.”
As a former LCA Sixth Grader, I remember my Sky Ranch experience being the highlight of middle school, and I am certain that this group of students would highly agree!
