Continuing the scatter-shooting format that I began last year, here are various thoughts and observations that I would like to share.

Survey Results Are In

Thanks are due to the 434 parents, 135 students, 110 faculty/staff, and 86 alumni who completed the SAIS Value Narrative Survey last month. We just received the 238-page analysis report that will provide valuable feedback as we identify the critical issues needing to be addressed in our strategic planning process. As we dive into the analysis to determine common themes and concerns, I'll be sharing our conclusions with you in subsequent blogs. Thanks, again, for assisting us in shaping the future of our school.

Strategic Planning Process Underway

Speaking of strategic planning, our process is well under way. To date, we have reviewed our school's mission, identified core values, and conducted a constituent survey. Throughout the year, we will be meeting with numerous focus groups comprised of parents, students, and teachers to solicit additional feedback. Our goal is to complete the process by this summer and publish the plan in August 2018.

Correcting a Falsehood

There were a couple of comments made in the survey that are simply untrue. Legacy does not get “kickbacks” from our uniform vendor. This rumor got started on social media when a parent read on the Dennis Uniform website that the company offers schools a share of their profits, similar to the profit-sharing that local restaurants offer to organizations that host family nights. We declined to participate in that program since our primary fundraising vehicle is our Annual Fund campaign. Instead, we instructed Dennis Uniform to provide more “scholarship uniforms” to families on financial aid for whom the cost of uniforms is a financial burden. Let's be careful not to post or propagate unsubstantiated claims on social media. It is not God-honoring and in fact, contributes to disharmony and disunity in the body of Christ. Pastor John Piper recently addressed the problem of gossip in the Christian community in his Desiring God online devotionals. Please click here to read his commentary.

Happy Thanksgiving!
