Legacy Christian Academy Parents and Staff,
As we begin this week, our nation pauses to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Long before he became a civil rights leader, Dr. King wrote an article at the age of 18 for the Morehouse College campus newspaper entitled “The Purpose of Education.” In that essay, he offered a statement that remains profoundly relevant today:
“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”
Though written decades ago, those words resonate deeply with our mission at Legacy Christian Academy. Education, at its best, is not merely about information, test scores, or college acceptance letters. It is about formation—shaping hearts, minds, convictions, and Christian character.
A Biblical View of Education
As a Christian school, we believe Scripture affirms what Dr. King so clearly articulated. God never intended education to be value-neutral or detached from moral formation. In fact, the Bible places the primary responsibility for a child’s education not on institutions, but on
parents:
“These words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them
diligently to your children…”
— Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (ESV)
Schools exist to support, partner with, and reinforce what God has entrusted first to
families. At LCA, we take that partnership seriously. We aim to educate students with
academic excellence while intentionally nurturing biblical character—because intelligence without character leaves children unprepared for the world they will inherit.
Why Parenting Matters More Than Ever
We are raising children in a culture that prizes knowledge, speed, and achievement, yet often struggles to define truth, purpose, or virtue. Our children will encounter powerful ideas, technologies, and opportunities—but they will need wisdom, discernment, and faith to navigate them well. That is why we believe parents must be equipped, encouraged, and supported in their God-given role.
An Invitation We Strongly Encourage You to Accept
With that conviction in mind, I want to personally and strongly encourage every LCA parent—and our staff who serve families daily—to join us for an upcoming Parenting Conference hosted right here on our campus:
Friday, January 31
8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Legacy Christian Academy
We are honored to welcome Dr. Josh and Jen Mulvihill, respected Christian authors and leaders, and the authors of the book “50 Things Every Child Needs to Know Before Leaving Home.” This conference is not about checking boxes or chasing perfection. It is about clarity, intentionality, and hope as parents seek to shepherd their children faithfully.
Drawing from their book, Dr. Josh and Jen Mulvihill will help parents think biblically and practically about the essentials every child needs before stepping into adulthood, including:
• Developing a biblical worldview
• Understanding identity and purpose rooted in Christ
• Building character, resilience, and responsibility
• Navigating technology, relationships, and decision-making
• Learning what it means to live with wisdom, humility, and conviction
These are the kinds of truths that shape not only successful students, but faithful men and women.
A Shared Calling
At Legacy Christian Academy, we are deeply grateful to partner with families who recognize that education is far more than academics. It is discipleship. It is preparation for life. It is, as Dr. King wrote, the pursuit of intelligence plus character.
My prayer is that you will view January 31 not as another obligation, but as an investment—in your child, your family, and your calling as parents. More details regarding registration and logistics will be shared soon. I sincerely hope you will join us for this important and meaningful day.
With gratitude and conviction,
Kevin Mosley
