Inclement Weather & School Closing Policy

Legacy Christian Academy values the instructional time our teachers have with students. Therefore, we have developed a policy that allows LCA to have an instructional day in the event of inclement weather.

School Closure Decision

In the event FISD closes school for the day due to inclement weather, LCA will automatically trigger a 10:00 am start. LCA will use the following safety guidelines in determining IF school will open for the day.

  1. If roads are NOT safe for travel or the school is NOT operational, then school will be closed for the remainder of the day.
  2. If roads are safe for travel and the school is operational, then school will open at 10:00 am for the remainder of the day.
Communication Process

Once a determination is made regarding school open or closure, communication will be made to LCA faculty, staff, and families by 6:30 am.

Notification will be either:

  1. LCA will be closed for the school day; a Distance Learning Day is in session. All before and after school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, and sub-varsity athletic practices are canceled. Coaches and sponsors will communicate directly as decisions are made regarding athletic games, varsity athletic practices, and off-site competitions.
  2. LCA will be open at 10:00 am. All before school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, and practices, athletics or otherwise, are canceled. Coaches and sponsors will communicate directly as decisions are made regarding after school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, practices, athletic games, and competitions.

LCA will use the following methods to communicate school closure details:

  • Automated phone calls to all LCA families

  • Email to all LCA families

  • Posting on the LCA website

  • Posting on social media

Lunch Plan

On a delayed start, a hot lunch will be offered but the a la carte selections will be limited. If the cafeteria staff is prohibited from arriving at school, arrangements will be made for LCA to order lunch from an outside vendor.

ACADEMIC DISTANCE LEARNING POLICY

In the event that inclement weather causes school to be cancelled, a Distance Learning Day will be implemented.

General Guidelines
  • Students in kindergarten through grade 12 will have academic assignments as detailed below.

  • All teachers will be available for communication from 12:00-3:00 pm, via email or another resource if applicable.

  • Assignments will be approximately 25 minutes from start to finish for each class/subject.

  • In the event that school is canceled for additional school days, the Distance Learning Day will repeat the procedures outlined above.

  • If a student is unable to complete assignments due to a power outage, his/her teacher(s) will develop an appropriate timeline for the uncompleted work to be finished. A late penalty will only apply if the work is turned in later than this adjusted timeline.

Early Education

Pre-K3, Pre-K4, and JK students will NOT be given assignments. Kindergarten teachers will e-mail the Distance Learning daily assignments no later than 10:30 am. All Kindergarten work will be due on the day that students return to campus.

Lower School

Lower School teachers will send the Distance Learning Packet no later than 10:30 am via email. All Lower School work will be due on the day that students return to campus.

Middle School

Middle School teachers will post assignments on Schoology no later than 10:30 am. Middle School assignments will include due dates.

Upper School

In the event of school closing/delay due to weather, the Upper School will move to distance learning. Each student will need to check-in to Schoology at the normally scheduled class time to get his/her work asynchronously (independent) or engage in synchronous learning (at a certain time) according to teacher instructions. In the event of a late start, students should complete the first instructional period of the day from home and then arrive at school for the remaining periods of the day which begin at 10:30 am.
