Inclement Weather & Distance Learning Policy
Legacy Christian Academy values the instructional time our teachers have with students. Therefore, we have developed a policy that allows LCA to have an instructional day in the event of inclement weather.
School Closure Decision
In the event of inclement weather, LCA will communicate on or before 6:30 am. LCA will use safety guidelines to determine if the school campus will close for the day or have a delayed start at 10:00 am.
Severe Weather Procedures During School
LCA regularly monitor storms in the area, the National Weather Service, and local TV and radio stations for any potential alerts or risks. Legacy receives regular updates and alerts from the Denton County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and the National Weather Service.
In the event severe weather is approaching during the school day, we will account for students and staff in secure locations and then communicate updates to parents. Legacy requests parents do not come to school buildings in the middle of a storm to pick up their children. Please let school officials effectively respond during a weather emergency and follow Legacy’s communication outlets for updates and announcements (LCA App, Facebook, Instagram, phone, text and email notification).
Communication Process
Once a determination is made, communication will be made to LCA faculty, staff, and families by 6:30 am.
Notification will be either:
- LCA will be closed for xx day; Distance Learning is in session. All before and after-school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, and sub-varsity athletic practices are canceled. Coaches and sponsors will communicate directly as decisions are made regarding athletic games, varsity athletic practices, and off-site competitions.
- LCA will open at 10:00 am xx day. All before-school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, and practices, athletics or otherwise, are canceled. Coaches and sponsors will communicate directly as decisions are made regarding after-school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, practices, athletic games, and competitions.
- LCA will be closed for xx day; no distance learning will take place. All before and after-school clubs, meetings, rehearsals, and sub-varsity athletic practices are canceled. Coaches and sponsors will communicate directly as decisions are made regarding athletic games, varsity athletic practices, and off-site competitions.
- LCA will release for xx day at x:xx am/pm due to forecast inclement weather.
LCA will use one or more of the following methods to communicate school closure details:
- App notifications to all subscribed LCA families
- Automated phone calls to all LCA families
- Email to all LCA families
- Banner on the LCA homepage
- Posting on social media
Lunch Plan
Breakfast will not be offered on a delayed start day. On a delayed start, a hot lunch may be offered and the a la carte selections will likely be limited. If the cafeteria staff is prohibited from arriving at school, families will be notified to provide lunch. Early Learning Center students will receive purchased lunches if there is a delayed start on Tuesday or Thursday.
ACADEMIC DISTANCE LEARNING POLICY
In the event that inclement weather causes the campus to be closed, an Academic Distance Learning Day may be implemented.
General Guidelines
- Principals will communicate academic instructions via Schoology/SeeSaw and/or email.
- In the event that school is canceled for additional school days, the Academic Distance Learning Day will repeat the procedures outlined above.
- If a student is unable to complete assignments due to a power outage or other extenuating circumstances, his/her teacher(s) will develop an appropriate timeline for the incomplete work to be finished. A late penalty will only apply if the work is turned in later than this adjusted timeline.
Early Education
Pre-K 3, Pre-K 4, and Junior Kinder students will NOT be given assignments. Kinder teachers will email assignments by 10:30 am.
Lower School
Teachers will post assignments on SeeSaw or send via email no later than 10:30 am. Assignments will include due dates.
Middle and Upper School
Teachers will post assignments on Schoology no later than 10:30 am. Assignments will include due dates.
