My Family

¡Hola! Me llamo Brooke Axsom (My name is Brooke Axsom). My family moved to Texas from Louisiana. My journey of learning Spanish began in high school. On a mission trip to Mexico, a desire was born deep within me to learn Spanish in order to communicate with the beautiful people who spoke it. To accomplish this goal, I majored in Spanish Studies at LSU (Geaux Tigers!). After graduating I moved to Cordoba, Veracruz to work as a missionary. As a missionary I worked at an orphanage, translated for American teams including pastors and doctors, and taught English. A year later I moved back to Louisiana to pursue a teaching license. My other travels include a study abroad program in Spain and mission trips to Cuba, Honduras, and Southeast Asia. My husband, Steve, and I have two precious daughters, Charlotte (6) and Rosalind (3) who are both in Spanish immersion programs.

Why do you choose to work at Legacy?

Our God desires to be praised by all nations and in every tongue. There is nothing more beautiful to me than when I hear my students use Spanish to glorify God. I relish the moments when a former student comes back to share about a mission trip or when an excited student relates to me that he/she helped translate for a stranger at a local grocery store. I consider my role in the Great Commission as inspiring and teaching students how to communicate in order to reach another 572 million people in the world for Christ. At LCA, I am able to accomplish this mission.

What is your favorite scripture? Why?

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not burdened by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

This is my favorite scripture because of the imagery. My desire is that my life would be like the trees described in Jeremiah 17:7-8. With Jesus as the source of life, one will remain steadfast and fruitful in times of hardship and in times of plenty. Blessed are those who trust in the Lord.
