The Legacy Christian Academy Class of 2020 will be among the first in North Texas to have an in-person baccalaureate commencement ceremony. For many seniors across the country, graduating during a global pandemic will come in many non-traditional forms; a car parade, an online presentation, a lap around a racetrack, or even a broadcast in a drive-in theater. This Friday, May 22nd, at 7:30 pm, the 91 Legacy seniors will have the chance to turn the tassel in person with their fellow classmates inside Toyota Stadium.

Graduation is a time of celebration, typically marked by parties, and hugs from friends and beloved teachers. This year, everything will happen at a distance, even the traditional hat toss. Students and their families have assigned seats that adhere to social distancing requirements, and the ceremony will be live-streamed for friends and family who typically would have traveled to witness this milestone. The Legacy seniors are, nonetheless, overjoyed that they will have the chance to march with “Pomp and Circumstance” and receive their diploma in person. Senior Lauren Bingham shared “I am so grateful that Legacy has provided us with a way to have an in-person graduation. It will bring me so much closure and happiness to see everyone together one last time.”
Upper School Principal Kevin Mosley said “We are excited about providing an in-person baccalaureate commencement that preserves many of our traditions. Despite the social distancing precautionary measures, we believe the Toyota Stadium venue will be a meaningful memory for our graduates. We are grateful for the City of Frisco and the Toyota Stadium management team for their partnership.”
Socially distanced graduation aside, this class of seniors has been through a lot together. Many of them have been a part of the LCA family as classmates since elementary school, known as Legacy Founders. The class as a whole has positioned itself well for future success. They boast an average ACT composite score of 27, and nearly one-third of the class scored above a 30, which places them in the top 93rd percentile in the nation. The 91 graduates were awarded a total of $10.5 million in scholarships and were admitted to over 100 different colleges and universities.
While these graduates are certainly prepared academically, they also excel in terms of their leadership, their community service, and their steadfast faith. More than 20 of our seniors created devotional messages to encourage the Legacy community. In her devotion, “Perhaps You Were Born for Such a Time as This,” senior Halle Hinton reflected on Esther 4:14. She shared, “This reminds me that there is purpose in every situation. Even during this pandemic when it is easy to focus on the bad and dwell on all the things we are disappointed in, God is still working for good.” Despite these uncertain times, our Legacy seniors have leaned into their faith and demonstrated their resilience.
