My Family
My wife Jessica and I have been joyously married for ten years, and we have three children: Lili (8), Ainsley (6), and Ryan (3). We spend time playing board games, going on walks, reading, and watching movies.
Why do you choose to work at Legacy?
I got in to public education as a mission field, but after eleven years there, God led me to leave due to policies that were not conducive to learning and an environment that prevented witnessing. I love seeing students “get it” when they've been struggling with a concept or skill and it finally “clicks,” and they're able to express how their new learning impacts their understanding of God's creation or their ability to interact with it. I'm most excited about partnering with parents to disciple their students in the gospel and excellence in academics.
What do you love most about teaching, coaching, or working at LCA?
I most enjoy teaching at LCA because I get to teach 9th graders the love of reading to critically examine a text and the joy of writing to present their analysis – but within the framework of the Biblical worldview, so they not only see how God's truth influences all aspects of life, but I also get to share the greatest story ever told with them: the Gospel.
What is your favorite scripture? Why?
My favorite Scripture is Psalm 139:16b (NIV): “all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” This statement reminds me that God is the master story-teller, weaving together a more beautiful narrative than any I have ever read or could even imagine, and I get to be the most-minor of background characters in building His Kingdom.
Where do you attend church, and how are you involved?
We attend Grace Church Frisco, where I serve on a few teams, including leading a small group.
What are you passionate about? What brings you joy?
I am passionate about connecting literature & language to history so students can understand the historical context of a story in order to grasp the worldview ideas the text explores. I study Medieval languages & literature, and it brings me joy to thoroughly grasp a text and the culture that produced it as I grapple with translating it.
What hobbies do you have? Or what is a fun fact?
I play a lot of board games. More than you're imagining I mean by “a lot.” My all-time favorite competitive game is Settlers of Catan: Explorers & Pirates, and my all-time favorite cooperative game is Shadows Over Camelot.
Fun facts: my family is very interested in our ancestry, and we have learned that I have an ancestor who was on the Mayflower on my mom's side, and that we come from Clan Wallace of Braveheart fame on my father's side.
