My Family

My wife Kristin and I have been married for 11 years. We met at Baylor University as a couple of nerds who were majoring in Biology and Chemistry. We married towards the end of our senior year in college and then she went to nursing school and I started a phd program for Chemistry. When I started the program I found out that the normal time in the lab was roughly 80 hours a week and that multiple graduate students had divorced during their time in the program. I quickly realized that while I did love research, I loved my wife more and wanted a job where I could spend time with my family. I soon found my way to teaching and I have loved it ever since. We have two children, Aiden and Adeline who are 6 and 4 respectively. We love spending time together outdoors and traveling during the summer.

What do you love most about teaching, coaching, or working at LCA?

I love being able to bring faith into the classroom. With a deeper meaning for life, I can show them that their education in any subject has a depth that they can seek if they choose. Math can be seen as just an endless parade of boring problems, or you can see it as something that is intimately connected with the created world. When you learn math, you are expanding your God given skills in mastering a topic and logically applying that knowledge to solve a problem. This skill is useful in anything you choose to do. We are the image of God and as he brought order to chaos, so too can we can bring order to this world with these skills.

What is your favorite scripture? Why?

“We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.” Matthew 11:17
When Jesus went out among the people some rejected him because he did not fulfill the expectations they had for him. This verse reminds me to keep the expectations of this world at bay. Not try to live up to the worldly standards or expectations, but seek to fulfill God's calling for my life.
