My Family

I grew up primarily in Oklahoma, went to Texas Tech University for my undergraduate (guns up!), and then did my masters and Ph.D. at the University of California, Davis. I am married to my first and only boyfriend and high school sweetheart, Nathan, and we have two children, Rebekah and Joshua, both who attend LCA. As a family, we love going on silly adventures, cheering each other on in our various activities, watching Disney movies, and playing with our Corgi puppy, Lucy.

What do you love most about teaching, coaching, or working at LCA?

What is there not to love? I consider my colleagues my dearest friends. They are the people that I text at night, miss over the weekend and summer, and pray with and for. We are a community of faith in every sense of the word. And I seriously have the best students – they are smart, thoughtful, well-equipped for the challenging classes I teach, and just delightful people to be around. I especially love the close-knit community we have – so close, in fact, that many students keep in touch after graduation. I love those surprise visits, texts, and emails from alumni! In fact, my birthday a few year's ago included a visit from three of the past year's seniors who happened to drop in after school. Those moments make my day and fuel me to keep on giving my best to the students currently sitting in my classroom.

What do students get at Legacy that they won’t get somewhere else?

A family…not just a family within their own grade or division, but a true family. I've seen it with my own children. Both of my children participated in the school musical while in elementary school, and they came away with lasting friends and mentors from the middle and high school. I've seen seniors in high school drop what they are doing and run up to give my 5th grade daughter a hug. I've seen junior boys spend their study hall at the 2nd grade Christmas program to cheer on their reading buddies. Probably the sweetest example of this connection happened for us when my son befriended a varsity basketball player after one of their games last year. This year, that relationship meant so much to my 1st grade boy that we went to every varsity game to cheer this player on. But what's more, that senior player came to some of my son's 1st grade basketball games and even asked him for his autograph after his appearance in the school play. I mean, wow!

Where do you attend church, and how are you involved?

We are members at Stonebriar Community Church. I am very involved in the music ministry. I sing in the Sanctuary Choir and volunteer in the children's choirs, of which both of my kids are members. We also are active in an adult fellowship class and enjoy serving as a family whenever we can.

What hobbies do you have? Or what is a fun fact?

We enjoy Irish music and culture (my kids are Irish dancers), so lately I've taken up learning to play the Irish tin whistle. I also love cooking and baking, anything crafty, and going on adventures (big or small). I love, love, love traveling! Before working at LCA, I was fortunate enough to spend three weeks in New Zealand, where I went white water rafting, blackwater caving, hiking up Mt. Doom (for those Lord of the Rings fans), and kayaking in the ocean. It was incredible!
