Yesterday, we experienced a spike in reported flu cases. As of this morning, we have over 80 students absent with confirmed cases of the flu. Several of these cases also involve a secondary infection such as strep and pneumonia. After consulting with my leadership team, we have determined that initiating our “Cyber School” policy for the rest of this week would be our best course of action to combat this outbreak. Please click here for a full description of how it works.

Below, is a list of activities that have been cancelled or postponed:

  • add.a.lingua Spanish immersion information sessions postponed until a later date
  • 4th/5th grade art club cancelled
  • all middle school athletic practices cancelled
  • middle school basketball tournament postponed until Saturday
  • Snow White play practices cancelled

As of now, all middle school soccer matches, varsity and JV basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, and tennis practices and games will continue as usual. The state swim meet is still on. Winterguard practices will continue as scheduled. The football and cheer informational meetings on Wednesday will be held as scheduled. Coaches and sponsors will be responsible for communicating updates regarding practices and contests. We will also post updates on the school's website.

During the next three days, we will be conducting a deep cleaning that includes treating all of our buildings with an antiseptic mist to kill as many germs as possible. We hope that the combination of deep cleaning and separating students from one another will mitigate the effects of this unprecedented flu epidemic.

We realize that cancelling classes creates inconveniences for all. We did not make this decision lightly. The physical safety of your children is of utmost importance and that includes protecting them from exposure to highly contagious illnesses to the best of our ability. Thank you for your understanding, support, and prayers for the health of our school community.

Onward Eagles!

Bill McGee
Head of School
