Legacy Christian Academy is not only blessed with amazing staff but also incredibly talented and motivating parents. At the first Eagle Mama Luncheon, held at Stonebriar Country Club, attendees got to hear from both. Eagle Mama is a quarterly event that is designed to bring together moms of students at Legacy and their guests to share in a time of fellowship and to share and grow in the experience of parenting. A lot of our families have similar victories and challenges when it comes to raising up children in a Godly and respectable way. These luncheons help provide a new perspective and guidance tools to help moms in their journey.
Jena Snyder, Legacy's Director of Guidance, started off with some words of advice and encouragement for the attendees. She shared with the group that the question she is most often asked by parents is “What are you seeing in your office?” The answer to this question, quite plainly, is anxiety. A lot of our students suffer from anxiety related to parental expectations and the pressure to perform that comes from parents as well as peers. Jena emphasized the importance of extending grace to children as they move through the learning process. One component of communication that is often forgotten about is body language. Jena reminded the moms to be aware of their body language, and remember that ultimately, we all have an audience of one. She quoted Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.
The keynote speaker for the luncheon was Jerica Olson, a Legacy parent to third and fifth-grade boys. Jerica shared an epiphany she had several years ago when the Lord spoke to her and invited her to start showing up for her own life. Many times, parents need a wake-up call like this to remember to be present. The start of a new school year offers new opportunity, new hope. But why is it that people are constantly looking forward to starting over? Is it because they are not finishing well? Is it a lack of preparedness? Jerica shared three must-haves for moms to match their resolve to complete with their readiness to begin.
- Perspective – Is the world defining your perspective or are you letting God define that?
- People – Who do you surround yourself with? If you are stuck in the middle of the storm of life, who do you look to in your lifeboat?
- Priorities – What is important to you? What do you spend your resources on?
She encouraged the Eagle Mamas to be bold. Be courageous. See yourself as He sees you and know that HE has equipped you for the works He has called you to. Legacy is blessed to have exceptional staff and parents that will continue to pour into the students and their families. The next Eagle Mama Luncheon will be November 28th. Guests are welcome to attend and we encourage you to share in the fellowship and encouragement.
