yearbook photoWhat are you passionate about?  I love to know, understand, and discuss things at a deep level. So this leads me to spend a lot of my time reading, writing, and talking things through with other believers. I want to understand how the truth of Scripture and the nature of God interacts with and helps us understand what it is to be human. I also enjoy physical activities such as rock climbing, hiking, kickboxing, and a smattering of other things.

pep rallyWhat do students get at Legacy that they won’t get somewhere else?  This question is hard to answer, but my instinct is to say, “They get me.” My colleagues and I love the Lord with all our hearts, souls, and minds as best we can, and we are all serious about teaching our content to the highest objective standard possible. We are not perfect; other schools might have good academics, athletics, and arts. Some schools also have caring faculty, but with Legacy, we have committed, intelligent Christians seeking to help guide and grow their students into committed intelligent Christians. Along with growing spiritually, we are preparing students' futures for college and beyond.

Why do you choose to work at Legacy?  God has me here. There have been times when I had not wanted to be anywhere else, and times, to be honest, when I considered that my tenure should conclude. But, God has clearly indicated that Legacy is where I ought to remain. This is His school, populated by His people. Here I can serve to the best of my ability and be challenged by brothers and sisters, both faculty and students alike.

“Justin is a unique, passionate, “all-in” teacher who takes developing a love of learning and asking questions to expand understanding to another level! He challenges his colleagues and students inside and outside of his classroom to be better learners, citizens and members of the Kingdom of God!”
– Megan Hanna, Director of Upper School Academics, colleague, and friend of Mr. Ahlgren

Ahlgren with friendsWhat is your favorite part of the school day?  I enjoy any time teaching and interacting with students. Being in the classroom is where I feel my gifts as a teacher are best utilized.

What do you love most about teaching, coaching, or working at LCA? I love it when relationships form and solidify between students and faculty. Relationships are big here at Legacy, whether you are a student, parent, staff member, grandparent, or a friend of our school. It is also really encouraging when formal lessons transition into great conversations. I am grateful for moments like those where conversations can point back to Christ.
